WELCOME TO MY SITE

I am Marios Basilopoulos and I live in Nikaia(Piraeus)

In this city there are a lot of refugees from Smyrne who 1922 brought with them their love of the singing birds and especial ii y fer the goldfinch.

The people of our city are famous for knowing the quality of the voice of the goldfinch and goldfinch X canary=mule and all birds.

Since I was a child I discovered in our yard cages for Smyrne with goldfinch and all finch and I met the love and the tradition of my ancestors.

I am a music professor so it is easy for me to make a recherchι on the voice and the sounds the birds.

I' m interested in their voice and specifically in the melodic space the use to sing.

The birds I grow have excellent voices and very right voices, either canary or a goldfinch.

So I chose to know the waterslager -malinoua canaries and the Spanish canaries voice timbrados which have the most wonderful voices.

For ever 15 years I've been trying to create the create the Greek singer canary crossing all these species and other wild birds.

The birds' voice

THE NIGHTINGALE

From the ancient years people were growing singing birds. In Ancient Greece famous speakers, philosophers, historians, and musicians have been always interested in those small singers. And especially with the nightingale which they called it "small god".
Homer, Sophocles, Askilos, Omhros, have always mentioned it but also in mythology has a great place. They talked about its colour, size, and its habits. Nature has made very humble.
Its colours are dark just like this of the trees, it doesn't look like the goldfinch but its voice reminds us the great songs of the big composers. When you listen to the song of the nightingale you will be astonished by the sound who reminds you the sound of an orchestra coming out just from a voice of only one birds.
You can notice some teterisms, clear notes, wonderful trillies and its voice going a scale higher at a moment, and then silence!!!
That's why the most famous bird in our tradition is and when people hear its name comes to their mind the sound of a great sweet melody. There are many songs written for the nightingale. Many people will wonder why do people today are growing singing birds.
In our days we think that people who are evolved with nature, plants and animals are wird special e.t.c
But we mustn't forget that the way us live makes us strangers with nature and everything beautiful or romantic.
We all know that people as poets, musicians and writers, people of the arts are more touched, show more sensitivity to these matters.
How many people can sit in the shadow of a plane-tree to listen to song of the king of the birds-the nightingale?
Let's try to give an answer to the question: "Which is the real connection between man and Nature".

THE BIRDS VOICE AND MUSIC

www.hlasek.com www.hlasek.com

In my professional aspect I would like to talk about the arts as it called it the Ancient Greeks the music.
I will try in a few words to analyze the connection between birds and musicians now the managed to affect our ancestors in their first interest for music.
Historians and musicians have written down, they have known that the prehistoric
Man who lines in caves even in holes of the trees had tried to mime the sounds of his everyday life the sounds of the birds.
Just like this, it was born the first interest about the music in man's mind to invent and discover the sounds and eventually music.
So it nas began, before the invention of the instruments, to create sounds he first used his body, his hands and legs and of course his voice.
From the Ancient year's man started to develop his artistic nature and which do you think were the sounds that he tried to make first? To sing?
Which were the sounds that drew this attention? They were the sounds of nature and especially the sound of the birds.
He lived in nature and he tried to make her sounds, the water in the river, the sound of the leaves and of course the melodic sound of birds.
He "stole" his first melodies from the birds when he whistled and then he tried to sing then with musical instruments that he had invented made them and then he finally managed to create his first song.
I' m sure many will wonder how man affected by the birds.
I have to inform you that the artists are inspired by nature, painters, poets, musicians to make their creations.
In our days all of us who live in big cities it is very difficult to inspired by her.
Birds are the first and bigger composer of nature.
We have heard in fairy tales, stories songs for their proud king nightingale, great composer of melodies and great singer.
Here are some examples to understand better the importance of the role of tour little friends for music and now much they have affected her.
The sounds known as 'trillies'' which are played in piano, flute and in other musical instruments they are sounds honing mimed the sound of nightingale.
The melodic spaces that sings the nightingale are pleasant in man's ears p. ex. 1st ,3rd,5ft 8th are the same spaces we are using in older to create a melodic phrase.
A good canary singing bird's p.ex waterslager (malinoua) that takes part in competitions
Mustn't sing in spaces like 4rth, 7th it looks like someone sings our favourites song very Bad ly. So when birds are singing mistakes are forbidden. Good singer and good canary must sing right. Birds sing in ways that man usually hears and understand.
Other in matzore way and other in minore way. The ear of musician can randomize the melodic space the canary sing, because birds with their voice are creating oscillations, harmonics, frequencies which are common to our voice.
A musician can understand from his experience in which frequency the bird is singing in which tune even though in which melodic spaces.
First of all we must understand that the way the sounds are created by birds and man is the same.
The tube is the organ which helps birds creates their voice, which is in the throat the muscles are moving and creating sound just like human larynx.
I will attempt to make an analysis of a bird's singing, a canary bird so it will be easier to understand.
The canary bird start singing from the 1st space then continues the same note and afterwards passes to 3rd, 5th. 8th e.t.c making a musical movement which called herpes and return in the same way.
But that was not the end of its song our small friend has also composed and other musical phrases, or songs changing from high notes to lower and finally we can also hear it singing a single melody or just a few notes only. It also tries to fill his melodic phrase just like the musicians do.
Every canary, bird of course sings differently from another, so it is capable to sing higher or lower from an other canary bird.
There is very few canaries which can sing as good in high notes as good in low notes just like human do not everyone singer sings the same, or having the same quality in voice. Or the same sound.
Another example which indicate the connections between nature and music is the isocratis- pedal technique from the folklore Greek music and Byzantine music p. ex in the nature the singing of the birds coexist with the bleating of the sheep's although they are different but with the sound of the water in the river, along with the sound of the leaves in the trees which replace the lower note it's a song it's a melody, it's a continuously played low note.
The sound of the forest it's a music trick which called Isocratis(pedal).
Unfortunately, in our days musicians are not connected to nature so they have lost the opportunity for inspiration by her.
In my opinion musicians should be taught by nature, and she will help them to compose.
Create musicians such as Vivadly with his play "Four seasons'', ' Il carduellino'', The Mozart with his play opera "The magic flute" are revealing us the beauty of nature and now artists can be their inspired.
Not only musicians, but also painters have been inspired by birds. In Austrian mountain halpes and in France for several years people tried to catch birds.
Mozart is his play "Magic flute" one of his protagonists is a birds-catcher.
The big Austrian composer has written also variants above in his music Antonio Vivaldi "Il carduellino"
He loved birds very much, and he tried to mime their song in many of his plays, with the help of flutes, oboes and pipes e.t.s.
He has also written various versions for flute to Vivaldi's play "Il cardellino" who loved nature and birds.
There are also many paintings of famous artists in Europe about goldfinch and all birds of being trained drinking water from a thimble, a very old trick also used in canary birds.
We must tie up a thimble with a rope and we use it like a bucket and we hung it in the cage.
When the goldfinch sees the water is trying to lower the thimble in order to drink water by using its feet, and nose.
The famous Italian painter Rafael Shatzio(1483-1520) created a painting with Holy Mary holding Jesus Christ in her arms and ne held a goldfinch in his hand.
His title was "The Madonna del Cardellino".
Another great painting is the "Il Cardellino" of Jan Steen (1626-1679), "The Goldfinch" of Carel Fabritius, and un other of W.A Bouguerau, John Gould has made a group of painting with main theme the goldfinch Francisco de Zurdaran has also made a painting with Holy Mary holding Jesus and goldfinch.
Nature has given to wild birds enough grace like as the blackbirds or a lark but there are also some birds who they don't have a great variety in they songs like the finch.
Singing birds are living in cages for centuries like the canaries who exist in many differently species and everyone is singing differently. Al though in the same species, every canary bird from a different country sings differently.
Scientists have proved that a canary can also sing different songs not always that same that man cannot understand.
Only if we use a palm graph we can see the difference between the melodies.

The Greek singer canary birds

For over 15-20 years I've started testing the voices of the canaries with paleography in order to check the frequency in which they were singing.
I made an attempt to translate their melodies in notes on the paper add made analysis.
It was a game between my two loves: music and singing birds.
Today with the computes and other electronic ways thing are getting easier and easier.
We can easily analyze a bird's song in a few times.
So I tried to create a Greek singer canary bird which will can sing with the voices of the wild birds.
The canary birds I used to create this new species after research on other species and making crossing to use the malinoua-waterslager with the timbrados canary.
I used the waterslager because they have a great variety of voices and they can mime very well the nightingale and the timbrados have very loud and strong voices and they can also mime very well the wild birds.
The young male birds are learning to sing when their feathers are changing and they learn how to sing in different scales and voice or melodies.
